Gullfoss, Geysir & Þingvellir – Iceland

Travel - October 30, 2015

We followed a day tour for the following 3 destinations.

The Geysir

The geysirs are like spouting hot springs. They erupt about every 3-5 mins. So what happens is we wait around the area, and when the time comes, a huge gush of water / steam comes spouting out of the ground.

Gullfoss Waterfall

Gullfoss (also known as Golden Falls) is Iceland’s most popular waterfall. This magnificent beauty is located southwest of Iceland. Of course, during different seasons of the year, it’ll look different. During the summer, it’ll have more greens are higher chances of rainbows forming over the waterfalls. But undoubtedly, no matter which time of the year you visit the falls, it’ll be an uplifting experience.

Þingvellir National Park

The last part of the day tour brought us to the National Park. By the time we got there, the sun was already starting to set. But what made it amazing was that the sunset flushed the sky with interchanging hues of pinks, purples and blue. Standing there watching the landscapes before us was like watching a painting unfold.

It’s definitely worth a go as it covers 3 places in one day (Approximately 7 hours in total).

P/s: I went during the end of autumn and start of winter season (End oct), so if you’re heading there in deep winter, bring more layers and coats! It was pretty cold when i was there, so i guess during winter you’ll need to wrap up more. (Heat packs are definitely useful).

Hi there, I found your blog through your instagram. Is it expensive to travel around in Iceland? I might be heading there in Dec – Jan. I was wondering if you could give some tips! Love your photos btw.

Hi Megan, I think it’s pretty okay if you balance out your expenses properly! If you’re 25 and above, i’d suggest you to drive rather than taking tours. It’ll save you more money. However, if you want to cover more without wasting time figuring out how to get to place, go for the tours. It’s gonna be pretty cold in Dec and Jan, do pack more clothes and scarfs and anything to keep you warm! Go for the northern lights tour, and i hope you’ll be able to watch them! Let me know again if you have any questions about Iceland, i’ll try my best to answer them. Cheers x
